Sons of the Confederate Veterans honor Confederate Veteran Elijah Bluford Stephens
On August 7, 2010, in conjunction with the annual Stephens Family Reunion, the Capt. W. Y. C. Hannum Chapter 1881 United Daughters of the Confederacy Maryville, TN, assisted by the Savage Stewart Camp 522, Piedmont, AL and the Capt. John Rayburn Camp 452 Marshall County, AL Sons of the Confederate Veterans presented a Confederate Grave Marker Dedication Ceremony to commemorate the life and service of Confederate Veteran Elijah Bluford Stephens, 5th Sgt. Alabama Cavalry Co. A Hollinsworth’s Battalion. The event took place at the Salem Baptist Church Cemetery in Bluffton, Cherokee County, AL.

One last LONG summer road trip
Before buckling down into the routine of school, football practices and the start of football games at the end of the month, I made one last road trip for the summer. Road trip it was, covering 1,805.71 (to be exact) miles through Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, Texas, and New Mexico before finally hitting the roads of Arizona.

Multicultural picnic scheduled for August 21

There will be a multicultural picnic Saturday August 21 at the Jacksonville Community Center, located at 501 Alexandria Rd. SW, from 11 am until 5 pm. People are encouraged to attend this community event where everyone will be welcome. There will be pool fun for a cost of $2 per person available from 11 am to 3 pm. The proposed lunch is barbecue-cooked hamburgers and hot dogs (first come, first served - sponsored by the Calhoun County Hispanic American Association), along with non-alcoholic beverages.

The Ladiga Trail from Weaver to Highway 204 at Jacksonville is approximately six miles. Alton Parris, Robert Hughes and I enjoy riding the trail from Weaver to Jacksonville and back to Weaver. It has become almost a daily routine for us to ride.
