ESPN announced today Alabama and Virginia Tech will play at 4:30 p.m. in a college football opener Aug. 31.

The Georgia Dome in Atlanta will host the contest, which is the Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game. Alabama and Virginia Tech played in this game in 2009 with the Crimson Tide winning 34-24.

All tickets are being sold through the schools' ticket offices. No tickets will be available through the Chick-fil-A Bowl office.

“Any way you look at it, this is an epic game between two top programs led by two of the best coaches in college football,” Chick-fil-A Bowl president and CEO Gary Stokan said in a news release. “Add to that, two of the best fan bases in the nation and an unopposed time slot on ESPN and you have the makings of a battle of heavyweights the country will anticipate all summer long.”

The ESPN/ABC family of networks also announced kickoff times for two other games Aug. 31. Georgia will play at Clemson at 7 p.m. on ABC, while Texas Christian and LSU will play at 8 on ESPN.

In addition, ESPN announced three Thursday night SEC games for the 2013 season. North Carolina and South Carolina will play Aug. 29 at 5 p.m. on ESPN, and Ole Miss will visit Vanderbilt at 8:15 p.m. on ESPN. Kentucky will play at Mississippi State on Sept. 24 at 6:30 p.m. on ESPN.
