Marion Miller Monk
Jacksonville - Memorial services for LTC Marion Miller Monk, U. S. Army Retired, 97, will be Thursday, August 16, 2012, at 11 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Jacksonville with the Revs. John Simmons and Ted Anderson officiating. His cremated remains will be interred in Arlington National Cemetery with full military honors.

LTC Monk died Sunday, August 12, 2012, at Jacksonville Medical Center.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Maxine M. Monk, of Jacksonville; two daughters, Tennyson A. Townsley, of Clinton, Wash. and Patricia Jo Monk, of Woodstock, Ga.; a son, Robert Marion Monk, of Reno, Nev., and three nephews.

LTC Monk was a native of Oklahoma and a resident of Jacksonville since retiring from active duty in 1963. At the beginning of World War II, he left Oklahoma A & M and was commissioned in the Air Corp. He continued his military career in the U. S. Army for 21 years, serving in World War II, Korea and Vietnam before retiring after the Cuban Crisis. LTC Monk was a former trustee and former member of the Administrative Board of the First United Methodist Church. A graduate of Jacksonville State University, he was a 32 degree Mason and a member of the Scottish Rite Bodies.

LTC Monk was preceded in death by a daughter, Barbara M. Monk; his parents, Marion and Rebecca Monk; a sister, Marguerite McCalib and a niece.
