Golden Eagles lose to Etowah

The Golden Eagles showed a lot of first game mistakes and jitters as they lost to Etowah 50-40 in the opening game of the season.

Jacksonville led by two points, 6-4 at the end of the first quarter and were tied at the end of the first half 18-18.

Etowah, with a couple of games already under their belts, scored six unanswered points to start the third quarter.

A full court pass from Lavontae LaCount to Des Curry was good for two and Curry came back with a 3-pointer to quickly get the Golden Eagles back into the game.

Etowah had a slim 31-28 lead at the end of three.

After a technical foul called against the Eagles followed by two turnovers, Etowah quickly jumped up to a nine point lead.

LaCount answered with five points on his own and a 3-pointer by Curry brought the game to within two at 40-38 for Etowah but that was the closest the Golden Eagles would get as Etowah went on to win 50-40.

Curry, who valiantly played despite several bouts of severe leg cramps, led the Eagles with 21 points. Curry was 7-for-7 from the foul line.

LaCount added 7 points and 9 rebounds and Andrew Clingan pulled down 12 rebounds and had two points for the Eagles.

Also scoring for Jacksonville were Sid Thurmond with 4, Dakota Doss 3, Savon Parker 2 and Jared Tippets added one point.
