Defending state champs begin year with win

The Lady Eagles began defense of their state title with a 56-42 win over Etowah.

Jacksonville jumped out to an early 20-10 lead only to see that lead cut to just two, 24-22 at the half.

The Lady Eagles found themselves in foul trouble very early in the game picking up 12 fouls in the first quarter alone and ended with 20 fouls in the first half, 33 for the game.

While Etowah kept up with the Lady Eagles in the first part of the third quarter, even going up 35-32, Jacksonville came storming back, putting in 10 unanswered points.

Jacksonville had an 11 point lead to start the third quarter and went on to take their first victory 56-42.

Kenyatta Ervin led the team with 18 points and 13 rebounds. Ervin was 5-for-6 from the foul line.

Angel Kidd scored 16 points and Sharon Osterbind had 13 points and five rebounds.

Also scoring for the Lady Eagles were Destiny Easley (4), Queenteria Mooney (3), and Abby Jaskowski added two points.
