Depth factor for JCA teams

JCA’s head coach of both the boys and girls teams, Dr. Tommy Miller, has long been known as a coach who can not only get the most out of the athletes he coaches, but also can get the most out of the limited number of players he has to work with.

This year offers no exception, and may in fact be one of the toughest years as far as depth is concerned.

On the boys team, Miller returns all of his players from last year…all six of them. He does have the added advantage of having picked up two new players also.

Back this year are senior Brandon Sudduth, juniors Tyler Morales, Dakota Crook, Will Parris and Jacob Heath and sophomore Daylon Brackett.

The Thunder has two new additions, senior Lake Williams and 8th grader Josh Bolling.

Miller believes that his team will be better this year but JCA is also in a very strong area with Ragland, Sacred Heart, Faith Christian and Donoho.

Despite his lack of players Miller reports that, “The players are working hard and are playing well together.”

On the girl’s side, the same problem faces Miller, the lack of players.

Only seven girls make up the JCA girls team with senior Courtney Russaw, juniors Elysabeth Morales and Olivia Hurst, sophomore Rachel Russaw, freshmen Joeley Cupp and Sarah Crook and 7th grader Briah Cupp.

“We have a long way to go,” says Miller. “These girls have a great attitude and as a team are basically having to start over. We have had several starters transfer the past two years but these girls have taken it very well and are having fun.

“Courtney Russaw is a great lead by example player. She would be an asset anywhere.”
