Mr. Harold Lipscomb and his Jacksonville High School Agri-Science Class have won the 2013 Johnny Appleseed Award. The award is presented for outstanding service in advancing community forestry in Jacksonville. The class was honored for their work in cutting and welding tree identification sign posts which were installed at the Henry Farm Trails. The project helped Jacksonville earn its first Tree City USA Growth Award from the Arbor Day Foundation. Johnny Appleseed was an American pioneer who planted thousands of acres of apple orchards. Each Arbor Day the Jacksonville Tree Commission presents an award in his name.
