• Relay for Life Yard Sale will be held Saturday, April 6th from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Odd Fellow Lodge, U.S. 278 Bypass Piedmont. It is sponsored by Farmers & Merchants Bank.

• Miss and Mr. Relay for Life Beauty and Talent Pageant will be Saturday, April 13 at the Heflin Civic Center (armory) in Heflin. All proceeds go to the American Cancer Society. • Major Dewayne Williams 6th annual Memorial Golf Calssic will be Saturday, May 4, 2013, at the Anniston Country Club. Team/Player registration deadline is April 26, 2013. Prizes awarded (two flights each) include 1st place team, 2nd place team, third place team. Names in each 1st place team are etched on perpetual tournament trophy. Registration fee is $80 per player (prepayment required) registration fee includes green fee, cart, Continental breakfast, dell style lunch, golf shirt and goody bag for each player. • “ Take Pride in Jacksonville” spring cleaning will be Saturday, April 13. Register at 8:45 a.m. at City Hall on Church Street to help pick up litter around the city. Residents may bring their recycling, including paint cans to Jacksonville City Hall beginning at 8:30 a.m. There will also be a large truck there to collect all sorts of household items. The Jacksonville-Piedmont landfill will be free from 7 a.m. until 11:30 for Jacksonville residents. Cub scout Pack 19 will be at City Hall collection aluminum cans. The event is sponsored by the City of Jacksonville, RSVP, Calhoun County Recycling Center, Calhoun County Beautification Board and County Commissioner Rudy Abbott. • Join the Calhoun County Tree Amigos Master Gardeners for the first plant sale of the season. Unusual perennials, trees, and shrubs will be featured at the sale, Saturday, April 20th, 8a.m. - noon, Cane Creek Community Gardens at McClellan. Sale proceeds benefit the Tree Amigos program. • Volunteers from the Calhoun County Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) will prepare and electronically file FREE Federal and State Individual Income Tax Returns at the Jacksonville Train Deport, 650 Mountain Street NW, during the hours of 9 AM to 3 PM, Tuesdays and Thursdays, January 29 thru April 11. These Volunteers are part of the IRS Volunteer Return Preparation Program (VRPP) and have all been trained, tested, and certified to prepare electronic returns by the IRS. Please bring all pertinent tax information (including last year’s tax returns), Social Security cards and one photo identification of some sort.
