Mrs. Hobbs died at her son’s home Wednesday, March 27, 2013.
She is survived by two daughters, Sherry H. Wilson and her husband, Bill, of Chattanooga and Carolyn H. Griswold and her husband, Tom, of Martinez, Ga.; a son, James Taylor Hobbs and his wife, Sandra, of Jacksonville; a sister, Pauline Keeling and her husband, Hal, of Ardmore; six grandchildren, Amy (Andy) Waters, Krissy (Charles) Joels, Stacy (Travis) Dorn, Justin (Brittany) Griswold, Zachary T. Hobbs and Hunter W. Hobbs; five great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Justin Griswold, Zachary T. Hobbs, Hunter W. Hobbs, Travis Dorn, Charles Joels, Andy Waters and Hayden Waters.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of Ruth Sunday School Class at Angel Grove Baptist Church.
Mrs. Hobbs grew up in Ardmore, Alabama. She was known to be a hard worker by all who knew her. She began her career as an operator on the switchboard, but rapidly advanced to unit management. She was employed by Bell South from 1954-1985 and served units in Athens, Decatur, Huntsville, Gadsden and Roebuck, Alabama. Mary was an avid gardener and always had beautifully manicured yards and flower gardens. She received the beautification award from the Jacksonville Garden Club. Mary was exceptionally generous and loving toward her family and grandchildren and constantly sought ways to be of assistance in all their lives.
The family expresses sincere appreciation to the staff and nurses of Ladiga Manor, Piedmont Health and Rehabilitation Center and New Beacon Hospice for her excellent care and concern for all family members.
Mrs. Hobbs was preceded in death by her husband, Charles T. Hobbs; her parents, Ollie and Ozell Eaves; two brothers, Ollie (Buddy) Eaves Jr. and Charles Eaves and a sister, Robbie Thorne.
