Wilbert Murphy
Jacksonville - Funeral services for Wilbert Murphy, 32, were held Wednesday, April 10, 2013, at 2 p.m. at the K.L. Brown Funeral Home & Cremation Center Chapel in Jacksonville with the Rev. Dr. Wayne Stevens officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home tonight from 5-7 pm.

Mr. Murphy died Saturday, April 6, 2013, at his residence after a long struggle with renal disease.

Wilbert is survived by a three sisters, Peggy Wesley and Mika Murphy, of Greensboro, N.C. and Mamie Murphy, of Winston-Salem, N.C. as well as a host of close Learning Tree friends.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Annie Louise Murphy.

Wilbert was a special education student at The Learning Tree, Inc. since he was 14 years of age. He graduated from their program and then resided in their adult services program. Wilbert was a gentle soul who loved music, sitting in the sunshine, being a good friend and playing with socks. He was far more that just a resident at the facility; he was family. His friends and family will miss him dearly.

In lieu of flowers, The Learning Tree requests live outdoor plants that could be used to create a memorial garden to honor Wilbert.
