Police charged a man with first-degree assault Friday after he allegedly shot a man in the leg last month.

Tavarius Quentae Morgan, 21, of Anniston was charged with shooting a 21-year-old man in the leg on Feb. 27 at Barber Terrace Apartments on South Allen Avenue, Anniston police Sgt. Chris Sparks said. The victim is recovering from a leg amputation after the shooting, Sparks said.

The shooting occurred during a fight between the two men, Sparks said. The victim confirmed Morgan’s identity after police investigated the incident, according to the sergeant.

Morgan paid his $20,000 bond Friday and was released from the Anniston City Jail. He is scheduled to appear in court April 15.
