Police are investigating an assault reported Sunday outside a bar on Hillyer Robinson Parkway.

Anniston police Sgt. Chris Sparks said a 30-year-old Anniston man told police he was assaulted in the parking lot of a bar on the 1500 block of Hillyer Robinson Parkway between 4:30 a.m. and 4:45 a.m. Sparks said a group of men allegedly walked up behind the victim and hit him in the left eye with an unknown object.

The victim went home and later discovered his eye was swollen shut, the sergeant said. He received treatment at Stringfellow Memorial Hospital for a broken facial bone and is expected to recover from his injuries, Sparks said.

A suspect will likely face charges of second-degree assault, a felony, according to a police report.

Police are still investigating the incident and ask anyone with information to call the Investigative Division at 256-240-4000.
