Anniston police were searching Thursday for a man who allegedly shot a car and assaulted a woman on Elm Street Wednesday.

Anniston police Sgt. Chris Sparks said officers received a report Wednesday afternoon that multiple gunshots were fired on the 300 block of Elm Street. A 24-year-old Anniston woman told police she and a man she knew had a disagreement at her home. Sparks said that after the argument, the suspect walked outside and shot the woman’s car several times with a handgun.

A police report shows a glass dining table, television and air conditioner were damaged during the dispute. The report values the items at $500.

Sparks said the woman was cut with broken glass during the incident. The victim received treatment on scene for several cuts and scratches on her arms, Sparks said.

The suspect was not at the home when police arrived, the sergeant said.

The incident was under investigation, Sparks said Thursday afternoon.

A suspect is likely to be charged with discharging a firearm into a car, a felony, and third-degree assault, a misdemeanor, according to the police report.
