Piano students of Dr. Susie Francis Dempsey of Jacksonville presented their spring piano recital May 19 at the First Presbyterian Church in Jacksonville. They each performed several piano selections prior to the awarding of some special honors. Five students received the coveted ‘Outstanding’ rating at both district and state levels in the Alabama Music Teachers Association auditions this spring.

Those participating included: Bailey Davis, daughter of Mrs. and Mrs. Eric Davis; Shea O’Donnell, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Randy O’Donnell; and Taylor Waddell, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Smith. At state level, Daniel Dempsey, son of Drs. David and Heidi Dempsey and Hannah Grace Weathers, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Carlton Weathers, were awarded the further honor of ‘Honorable Mention’ and their names, along with their teacher’s, were included in the state conference program. All of these students were adjudicated in their performances of three memorized piano pieces as well as their demonstration of music theory knowledge at the keyboard. Other students presented in the recital were Jerry and Ginny Jackson, children of Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Jackson; Hannah Kramer, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Chad Kramer and Justin Westley, son of Dr. and Mrs. Christopher Westley, who performed earlier and is not pictured. Dr. Dempsey is a retired piano professor from JSU who continues to teach piano in an independent studio. She also serves as organist at the First Presbyterian Church in Jacksonville.
