The 23-year-old victim went to her ex-boyfriend’s home on the 2400 block of Adams Street around 6 p.m. to drop off some of his clothes and pick up her belongings, Anniston police Capt. Allen George said.
When the victim walked into the home, George said, her ex-boyfriend struck her in the back of the head with a fly-swatter and then punched her repeatedly. The victim tried to get away, the captain said, but the suspect strangled the woman with his hands until she passed out.
George said that when the victim woke up she tried to leave again and the man punched her in the left eye, slapped her and struck her with a window blind. The victim told police she called a friend for help, and the suspect took her phone and threw it at her chest.
The victim reported the incident to police after her friend picked her up, George said.
The woman suffered from bruises, scratches, a swollen left eye and a welt on her stomach, the captain said. The woman did not receive medical treatment after the attack, George said.
Police were investigating the incident this morning, George said.
A suspect could be charged with felony domestic violence by strangulation.
