Anniston police today were searching for a car reportedly stolen from a dealership over the weekend.

Employees with Adam Bailey Automotive on U.S. 431 told police a red two-door 1999 Pontiac Firebird was taken from their lot sometime between Friday and Monday morning, according to a police report.

Anniston police Capt. Allen George said it was unclear how the vehicle was stolen. No keys were reported as taken from the dealership.

The vehicle is valued at $13,000, according to the police report.

George said in stolen car cases, the vehicle sometimes turns up later if the thieves only used the vehicle for “joyriding.". More typical, George said, is the thieves will try and sell spare parts of the vehicle.

Other than generic brand recognition, the parts are impossible to trace back to a single vehicle, George said.

No suspects have been identified, and police were still investigating the theft today, George said.
