Anniston police were searching today for a man suspected of domestic violence, assault and three separate shootings, all of which occurred Wednesday night.

Anniston police Capt. Allen George said the incident began at an apartment on the 500 block of Glen Addie Avenue around 6 p.m. George said the suspect fired shots at a television, slapped his 26-year-old girlfriend across the face, pushed her against a wall, and fled.

George said that 45 minutes later, the suspect got into an argument with a neighbor down the street. The captain said the suspect shot at the neighbor as well as another woman on the neighbor’s porch and another woman standing nearby as she tried to call police.

George said the suspect fled the scene on foot, leaving his two handguns behind. Witnesses told police the suspect’s mother came to the scene and picked up the guns and several shell casings.

George said the suspect’s mother is likely to be charged with misdemeanor second-degree hindering prosecution.

According to George, the suspect found his girlfriend in her mother’s car on the 500 block of Glen Addie Avenue a few hours later. The man got into the car, began arguing with the woman and then slapped her, George said. The girlfriend got out of the car and tried to walk back into the apartment, but the suspect followed her, the captain said. When another neighbor tried to intervene, the suspect shot at both of them and then fired three shots into the car. The suspect fled the scene before police arrived.

The damage to the car is estimated at $1,000, according to a police report.

No one reported any injuries, George said.

George said police have identified the man, but had not located him this morning.

Any suspect could be charged with three counts of attempted first-degree assault, discharging a firearm into an unoccupied vehicle and first-degree domestic violence, all felonies, as well as reckless endangerment, criminal mischief and third-degree domestic violence, all misdemeanors.
