A one-vehicle crash on Alabama 46 in Cleburne County forced the closure of the eastbound lane for much of today.

Turkey Heaven Fire Chief Patrick Nolen said a truck hauling chicken feed ran off the road about a mile from Cleburne County Technical School.

The truck went off the roadway and rolled over on its side, Nolen said just before noon.

“There’s chicken feed dumped all over,” he said.

When firefighters arrived about 7 a.m., the driver of the truck was out of the vehicle and appeared unharmed, Nolen said. However, Cleburne County Emergency Medical Service took him to Regional Medical Center in Anniston because he was complaining of some pain in his shoulder, Nolen said.

Turkey Heaven volunteer firefighters were still at the scene directing traffic as the truck’s spilled grain was cleaned up, Nolen said. The trucking company, which he declined to name, was at the site carrying out the cleanup, he added.

The wreck is under investigation by Alabama State Troopers, Nolen said.

Nolen estimated this morning that the road would be fully open by about 1 p.m.
