Thanks to Gary Collins. He not only told our story of being a caregiver alone, but he also made people like me realize we are not alone in caring for our loved ones. I am very much aware of this feeling that you have of doing all you can and it seems that you are battling an uphill assault.
People and relatives think if they visit a few minutes they have done a great deed. Let’s all help those that have this awful disease called Alzheimer’s. My experience has not been so different than Collins’. Thank God he got help by getting his mother in a nursing home.
Visits are good from friends and relatives, but if you know of someone still at home with this disease, please give them some relief. I have been able to get my loving wife in a nursing home. Folks, I was at my rope’s end. Let’s help one another. It could affect any of us.
