Calhoun County Restaurant Week: Part 2

There’s still plenty of time to help the Chamber of Commerce celebrate the inaugural Calhoun County Restaurant Week.

Now till Monday, take advantage of lunch and dinner specials at restaurants throughout the county including Jefferson’s of Oxford, Mellow Mushroom, Zaxby’s of Anniston, Mata’s Greek Pizza, Garfrerick’s Café, Peerless Grille, Thai One On, Cooter Brown’s Rib Shack, Covalli’s Italian Kitchen, Red Pepper Grill, The Bistro at Courtyard by Marriott, Heroes American Grille and the newly opened Prime Dining and Bar.

The best food in Alabama convenes in Birmingham

Here’s a chance to try a little bit of the best food in Alabama, all in one place. The 10th annual Breakin‘ Bread 2013 will be Sunday from 1-5 p.m. at Railroad Park in downtown Birmingham.

This annual festival drew a crowd of more than 2,000 attendees hungry for food and community in 2012. The event features samples of signature dishes from nearly 40 Birmingham restaurants and guest chefs from all around the state. This year’s VIP chefs include James Boyce from Huntsville, Wes True from Montgomery, Rob McDaniel from Alexander City and Josh Quick from Florence.

There are also beer and wine tastings, live music from the Alabama School of Fine Arts orchestra, a remote-controlled boat exhibition and a kids area with face painting, pumpkin decorating, a writing workshop and food by Chef Chris Vizzina and Amanda Storey.

Tickets are $50 and include food and beverage tastings, activities and live entertainment. Tickets for ages 12-18 are $20 and children under 12 are free.
