George Noye recently celebrated his 103rd birthday Dec. 15 with his wife, Eddie May; daughter, Corene English and son William Elston Sr. along with friends at Golden Living Center in Oxford. Members of Greater Thankful Baptist Church also attended the event of about 75 guests.

Noye was born Dec. 15, 1910, to the parents of the late Rev. George and Rosie Noye, in Autauga County, Alabama. He was the ninth of 13 children.

As a child Noye worked in the fields picking cotton and when he was older he worked in a lumber yard for 20 years. He arrived in Anniston in 1943. His hobbies included gardening, growing vegetables and raising pigs.

He is the oldest member and deacon of Greater Thankful Baptist Church. He has also been a Sunday School teacher, usher, superintendent of the Sunday School and chairman of the deacon board.
