Two seats for the Jacksonville Board of Education were up for grabs in last week’s municipal election and the unofficial results have been posted.

Despite the economy, business is being done in Jacksonville. Last Saturday, the Dollar Tree officially opened at Jacksonville Crossing, the former location of the old Walmart. Other stores will soon be joining the Dollar Tree in the shopping center. City officials estimate Sally’s Beauty Supply will be open in two weeks and a new Mexican restaurant will join the stores around the end of September.

More than 200 seniors and volunteers from Calhoun, Chambers, Cherokee, Clay, Cleburne, Coosa, Etowah, Randolph, Talladega, and Tallapoosa counties made their way to the Jacksonville Community Center last week in order to compete in the Master Games of Alabama District 4 competition.
